gears keep getting stuck

Post by icklelea »

when im driving at fast speeds as im accelerating off in 3rd when i go to change into 4th gear they get stuck and dont go into place properly... i dont know how to describe it properly, they repeatedly clunk - like a knocking, where the cams obviously arent going into place.

i asked at the garage why this was happening and they said cos my clutch was on the nearest setting i wasnt pulling it in enough for the gears to change properly... which i guess would make sense, except im lazy and dont use my clutch to change gears at speed?!!?!

any suggestions?!?! i really want to stop this before i knacker my gear box!!!

They could be right or more to do with the clutch not being adjusted right and the springs arent pulling on it correctly, try to get 3-4mm of play at the lever after adjusting and see if that helps, could be also a sticky gear lever, strip and clean. take it chain and sprockets are in good nick? Hope some of that helps :smt001

try adjusting the gear change linkage sometimes that makes a difference.

you can adjust by turning the linkage rod.
