Anyone had rocker arm damage like this? I`m gutted, had all my nw shims delivered today and spotted this just as i was about to start. :smt011

Looks like a new arm, is this an engine out job?

cheers

Dan.

Yes, had this last time I shimmed. It’s ok until it’s through the hard coating on the arm.

Too replace, you don’t have to take out the engine but, you may as well because to give you the room to pull out the rocker arms you need to swing the engine forward.

Thanks for the reply. Yes its through the hard coating, annoyed i missed this as i was just about to reshim and run up ready for MOT next week. Had the bike stripped down and replaced loads of parts and done a full service and thought i was nearly at the point of riding her. :smt011

Looking at the positives i suppose if i hadnt had the cams out to replace timing chain i would never have known and could be looking at a wrecked cam lobe further down the line.....

Hard to really see in the photo, but that might have chipped the hard facing...if it has your cams will chew through the rocker really quickly.

If it's an exhaust rocker you can do it with the engine in the frame, if it's an inlet it's either engine out, or disconnect the can, radiator bottom mounts, shift lever etc, the top engine bolts and the ones above the swingarm...you can then pivot the engine and get the rocker shaft out...

I would run your finger over it and see how bad the damage is, also check the cam lobe for damage/excessive wear.

You can still buy the rockers brand new from kawasaki for £30 each...so if it's just the one is it worth not replacing it if it's damaged?

Banner,

Yeah its definitely gone through the hard coating i`m afraid. Cam lobes look fine and all other rockers look fine. Looks like she wont be back on the road for a while longer........ :smt011
