Cam timing chain install

Post by greenville »

Hi

Anyone that can perhaps with some instructions or a link to a how to video or manual on how to replace the cam timing chain on a 1989 Yamaha FZR400 without having to split the motor or remove the crankshaft?
I have a spare motor that I would like to take the cam chain out of and reuse if possible, will i need to get a soft link or a master link to be able to do this?
Any help appreciated
Thanks

its a central camchain, so if you want to use a linkless camchain its split cases as you need to feed it over the crank.

failing that you can just remove the camshafts, plug all the holes, keep the chain taught, cut the chain, attach it to the new chain and turn the crank to feed the new chain onto it, then split link it (if one is available...).

personally its a split engine job, doesnt it have a 100k mile service interval?
