Well

KBATL is

Kawasaki Back Torque Limiter. In a few words a slipper clutch.

Slipper clutch

Is a clutch that allows in hard downshifts to slipper the disks and to avoid the rear wheel to lock.

A must when u are going to corner and avoid bike chatter.

Rossi and other guys had this to there bikes and make the 4 stroke engines to feel like a 2 stroke.

I mean that the engine brake is reduced.

In the new SS like R1 and GSXR is also adjustable, i mean that can adjust the engine brake from the clutch.

For example u are with 5th gear and u downshift to 2nd, the bike will not over rev and u hear the engine to make a sound like MotoGP bikes in downshift.

All this i see in my last track bike i had. It is a KBATL model.

Kawasaki also equip and the ZXR 750 this year with this clutch.

And then the R model of the year have as an extra.

Like

ZXR750R and ZX7-RR.

If your bike dont have this u can do this ride tip.

When to want to downshift hard.

Push the frond brake (with 2 fingers max)

Pull the clutch (dont realise him) and do a small open to the gas.

Then realise the clutch

This will help u to balance the rear wheel rotation with the engines revs and make more stable.

Slipper clutch do this work for u, also slipper clutch help's in trail braking (the option to carry the brake in the apex)

you can fit thinner metal plates to the clutch to "adjust" the standard non-adjustable KBATL slipper clutch.. so that it has a more pronounced effect, as standard its set so tight that its hardly noticeable..

weird how hardly anyone knows kawasaki was fitting slipper clutches as standard back in the early nineties ..

So how do you know if your bike has the KBATL clutch or not? Mine has a KBATL sticker on it but obviously that could have just been put on there? Thanks
