just got my zxr about 2 weeks ago, and i think the headgasket has gone?

there is a leak coming from that area, and its running down to the left top engine mount, oily?

headgasket or not?

Not nesscessarly.

There are little holes on the front of the cylinder head that drain water or oil from the spark plug holes if the rubber seal on the cylinder head/rocker cover is leaking than oil could be running down from there.

It's a far easier job to replace that seal than a head gasket.

Do you have any loss of performance ?

Are you losing water for no obvious reason ?

Is ther oil in you water ?

Or water in your oil ?

You might even hear a blown head gasket if it was bad ?

A compression tester might give some guidance

Give the whole area a clean and start the bike and look for oil leaks ?

Even if it has gone the zxr400 is one of the easiest bikes to replace a head gasket on I've ever worked on. Timings simple and the chain is side mounted. Dont worry mate a monkey could do it!

if the oily residue is running DOWN to the top left engine mount then its not the head gasket because thats below the engine mount.. sounds like its leaking from the rocker cover ..
