Recently my bike developed an annoying rattle, that i can almost pin point with my good ears coming from the top end. im thinknig that it could be the cam chain/tensioner or guides?? I hope. Its a very loud tinny rattle, sounds like its coming from where the cogs on the cam shafts are.

It only occurs when its warm n between 3,000 n 4,500 RPM. Its a zxr400 L3 30,000 miles. apparently the chain was replaced 2 weeks ago when i had s**t loads of work done, including valve clearances n shims.

Plz help!!

well i didn't even no the chain was erplaed, it wasn't on the invoice, it was only went i said the chain is noisy he mentioned he replaced it. so i suspect the tensioner is old n nackered.

If it wasnt on the invoice, does that mean he fitted a new chain for free?

i dunno, im not sure how much i trust him anyway, coz iv bin bak 2 him with problems before n all iv got is bulls**T answers. obviously iv looked at the chain since n it does look in good order at a glance. i was playing around 2day n i may have sussed it, i think it was the tensioner coz the large pin that pushesthe rod up was at full extend, so i made a custom 1 n extended the spring n got it very tight, so harldy any movement. i took it for a 10 mile test n i got no rattle!! i will test it some more. but ultimatley i think i might have to replace it 1 day.

you need a vernier to check the chain mate over 20 links i think it is, chewck the manual, i wouldn't risk it with a custom tensioner, get it all replaced b4 it costs you big time.
