Turning into a bit of a pig!

Well the ZXR400 H1 I bought a few months ago just seems to be a never ending box of surprises!

Things I now know:

1. That L forks are an inch shorter that ones on my H.
2. That nothing rusts on harder than a rear swing arm bolt that hasn't been touched since 1989.
3. There is no such thing as a cheap project.

The latest problem is with the camshafts as the hard coating on the exhaust cam has begun to wear through in places along with a couple of the rocker arms.
My dilemma now is do I simply phone round breakers and hope I can get hold of a decent one (although I'm assuming most will be in a similar condition due to the age of the bike) or try and source a new part?

the hardening on cam followers seems to be a bit of a lottery, I had one wear through in about 11,000 miles and the guy at pidcocks said they'd seen them on even lower mileage bikes. Once it gets through the case hardening it will very quickly take a huge chunk out of cam andd follower.

so I guess you could get one from a breaker and it might go tomorrow or it might last longer than a brand new one.

Mine was the inlet cam and the (new) parts were about £200 I think (can check later). Assume an exhaust camshaft isn't going to be much different.
