cam chain tensioner installation

Post by Bestie »

ey up guys n gals

my problem be this,

big breasted glamour model bikes wanted £100 to fox my CCT, so i bought my own to DIY!

armed with laptop, and manual, and microfiche, can of bud, torque wrench i was ready!

i spilt my beer, realised coolant was leaking as the cap wasnt on tight, and i had overfilled a bit.....and also saw the mechanics 'get yer home' job. i didnt take a pic but i shall, basically he used a nut and bolt!

sooo.....i have all the parts (see link) and all the info on the manuals here, but i get very confused about putting it all together?

does the liccle spring go inside the big spring? the hole for the thin wire? i dont think mine has one but ill check again tomm and confirm!

i dont suppose anyone can clarify a basic english version for an idjut like me?

it would be lovely if you could!

p.s pic is in the junk stuff in the gallery, ill get the link when baz/admin approves my porno shot :smt002

cheers all
bestie

oh, and while im here, my torque wrench is 1/4 drive, and my sockets from another set only go upto 13mm, and i need the rest, would it be easier to buy another 3/8 wrench and use my existing sockets orcan you get a convertor 1/4 - 3/8 OR simply buy a socket set 14mm upwards?

cheers i know its dumb but hey!!

i always use a bog std torque wrench that you can get anywhere for £20, we have loads of torque wrenches at work but only use a std 320 one, some of ours run into hundreds of pounds worth and are still sat in the box 2 years on.

sorted!

little spring goes inside big spring.

reset tensioner and attach to bike, tightening each lock bolt the same, i.e half turn on one, then the other.

push up the springs, and apply bolt and washer!

easy!

just dont overtighten the bolt holding the springs, it is hollowed out and a fecker to find....so much so i had one specially made for me (cheers rog ;)) otherwise it would have been £60 for new tensioner!

Hello Bestie,

£60 ! ! ! for a tensioner ! ! !
I suggest you go and kick your dealer bloody hard, I have 2 within 15 miles of me and they both quote £20 plus vat for the tensioner assembly!

Nick.
