Strangely enough I've just refitted a sump and noticed that the drain has been helicoiled..............................it protrudes into the sump and doesn't allow oil to drain fully I also suspect that a lot of the crud I had to clean out of it is being left behind when I've changed the oil instead of being carried out with the oil................the crud is trapped by the protruding helicoil.

wonder if they left the piece that's suppose to have been broken off the helicoil? didn't think it could cause a blockage...what did you decide to do with it?

The helicoil is just too long it sticks up proud above the bottom of the sump by about 10mm so thats a depth of 10mm of oil that can't drain out..................
