Servicing at the weekend - Few questions

Hi Guys,

Gonna service the ZXR at the weekend, as I think its time I actually did it.

I have 4 x NGK IX IRIDIUM plugs, an oil filter and 4 litres of Silkolene Comp 4 10W-40.

Am I correct in thinking that the following process is correct? (Not done one before, although pretty methodical and seem to be getting handy with a spanner)

1) Remove lower fairings
2) Place oil tray under bike and remove sump plug
3) Remove oil filter (Screwdriver through it if won't come off)
4) Smear oil on the lip of the filter, and re-fit - tightening 3/4 turns by hand
5) Refit sump plug - Hand tighten, and then half a turn with spanner?? (Dont have torque wrench)
6) Refill with oil
7) Remove tank and fit plugs

Sound right?

Is the sump plug tightness about right?

Oil is looking crappy atm, and plugs defo need a change!

Cheers :D

P.S - Anybody from Scunthorpe area?
:)

aye, i dont do mine up mega tight. Bear in mind that the sump bolt will be covered in oil when you tighten, so it wont feel as tight as it actually is.
do warm it up before you drop the oil. I tighten my oil filter as tight as i can get it by hand.
when you put you new plugs back in, try using a peice of plastic tube over the plug instead of a plug socket. that way you wont thread em.

I also filled the filter with oil before fitting it. I think it said to do this on the filter itself.

Don't over tighten your sump bolt and crack the sump like I did. It doesn't need to be that tight.

Hi Mate
i use castrol 4gp i think it is but any semi synth should do it, halfords own motorcycle oil is good stuff,As for iridium plugs i've just put them in my TL as they are only a quid each dearer than normal plugs, dunno if you notice a difference cos my old plugs were shagged and the wrong ones anyway so yeah i noticed a hell of a difference.

get your parts from cradley kawasaki, pretty much next day service on everything, and no the H & L airfilters are completely different.
