are you sure you have adjusted the clutch cable too much??try undoing the clutch cable a little that might make it better, also does it try to 'creep' forward when in 1st with clutch held in?if so i would say its the cable sticking of needs adjusting.hope this helps
let us know how you get on

o dosn,t try and creep, it,s not dragging, it is a bit stiff between the gears, but they do go in, man i bought it off is sending me a set of plates and a cable, i,ll try that.all these years of riding, and i never realized it was between 1st and 2nd,lol

update on not being able to select neutral, having bought bike as a sp, on stripping clutch down, found an ordinary clutch, not slipper! but close box, some berk had at some point, been at it, and there were 3 drive plates together! instead of alternating them, i.e. friction/drive etc, so have now got a proper slipper clutch to fit, but iv,e just put a friction plate in, and it works ok! so will wait till winter probably to fit slipper..ted

And my question still stands.
I'll always remember the SP I saw for sale on Ebay the owner said it was a SP based on someone having written "sports production" in crayon on the seat unit
