Is my clutch jammed on?

Post by bikenut »

Started the bike for the first time in 2 years yesterday, bit rattly but the noise goes when you pull the clutch in.

Had the rear up on the paddock stand, i can pull the lever and select first, release and the back wheel spins.

BUT:

When i pull the lever in, the back wheel still spins, i can grab the back wheel and stop it spinning and this stalls the engine.

I tried adjusting the clutch cable but this made no difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

how can i ride it, it will just stall the moment i select first.

Do you think the clutch is jammed on, it has not been ridden since 2002.

Try pushing it in gear with the lever in..

Sounds like the plates are stuck, it may free it off.

Thanks for the advice, i have just spent the last half hour trying that with no luck.

The odd thing is the bike moves easier with the lever in than with the lever out so the clutch must be working a bit.

Does this mean, i'm going to have to strip the clutch down?

ride it. get her rolling downhill engage gear and get her warm. stuck plates usually free up after a while unless its a big seize. clutchless changes up and down may help to free em.

Took the cover off today, loosened the 4 allen bolts that hold the springs.

Friction plates and steel discs all came apart easily, they look fine.

I am at a loss what to do now, do i just put it all back together and see if stripping it down has cured the fault?

yeah get it back together and see :)

change the oil while your at it too. And perhaps let the plates soak in fresh oil for a bit aswell.
