Slippage ...

Post by derick77 »

Hey guys and gals, Been out on my 1991 zxr400 (The ninja SP version?) and after about 10k to 11k RPM the engine tends to rev a little bit higher with no gains in speed, its only a very slightly slip but after researching into it a bit more i'm starting to wonder if an oil change might fix this issue before diving in and changing the clutch?

Whats the best sort of oil for my ZXR400 seen a couple of oil change kits on eBay but would like some solid advice first :)

Thanks!

i use castrol power 1 semi-syn 10W-40 in my bikes...no issues with any of them at all.

you should be doing oil and filter changes every 3000 miles to keep your bike in good condition.

if you do suspect the clutch, ross46 did a cracking guide (viewtopic.php?f=118&t=14839#p108533) with a good video, followed this exactly when i did mine and it was dead easy.

worst case scenario you need a brand new clutch assembly (6x friction, 5x steel, 4x springs and maybe 1x cable) which will run you to ~£120 with a forum discount from cradley kawasaki. my plates were fine but i needed new springs, and changing the clutch cable made it silky smooth :D

JPN ZXR250 A2 (1990) - Revs to 19,200rpm... 'nuff said :smt003

Brilliant! I might as well change the clutch when i'm due my next service! (in about 2400 miles) or I might do it sooner

Thanks for the advice on the oil, will give it a shot! just had to change my regulator as it boiled my battery dry so fixed that.

cheers.
