Clutch drag

Post by WizzBang »

Its been a while since Ive posted on here as Ive been so busy Ive not even been able to look at the 400 trackbike let alone work on it, but I finally have to get my finger out and get it finished as Ive booked a trackday at Anglesey Coastal on 14th Sept.

I have a few things to get sorted with the bike, but one of the major issues is that the clutch drags. I have tried adjusting the cable but cant rid the drag and I have also been informed that it slips at the top end too.

Does anyone know what I should be concentrating my efforts on.....plates...cable....basket ????

I have also heard that the basket from early model ZX6Rs fit (more heavy duty) can anyone back this up, and if its true, what about later model baskets ??

No doubt I will have more questions as time goes on, but for now I shall settle for the answers to the above (if anyone has them that is)

Cheers

Ive just ordered a new set of steel plates from Cradley Kawasaki, and have got a new set of EBC heavy duty friction plates. Ive also just won a good condition lever and cable off of eBay too.

Im hoping that that lot will cure any of the issues that Im suffering with.

I did drop the oil out of the bike and found it to be runnier that a very runny thing, so that might also help in the clutch slip issues (oh and the clutch springs wernt done up very tight too)

Ive no idea what oil came out as Ive only had the bike for a short while, but it was a race bike before, so Im assuming the oil was 0W as it was really really thin.

Got a nice shiny bottle of Motul 15W40 to go in once the plates arrive

Be very careful which oil you use, I had this same problem with my H2 @ Snetterton (it only did it down the straights) I changed the oil and put Morris 10w 40 Semi in it. It was as good as gold @ Rockingham :smt002
