slipping at 10k rpm

Post by ~JB~ »

my bike has a little issue at the moment, when going balls out the revs seem to increase faster than the bike is accelerating at 10,000 rpm.
Any ideas? i was thinking maybe clutch or slipper clutch....

Would have thought it would be the normal clutch that is slipping.
I would take a look at the plates :)

sound like the clucth my race bike did it end of the season at about 10,000 from 3rd gear up, stripped it down and found only 1 had worn down bad, i know a lot of racers have trouble with clutchs slipping at ours, mine was the ebc kevlar ones and didn't last a full season, maybe if any other racers see this what have you found to be the best ?

definitely sounds like the clutch is slipping, have you tried adjusting the cable?
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

A slipping clutch can often be caused by have the wrong oil in your bike.
Any car oils should be avoided and avoid mixing fully syn with semi or mineral. Even if your doing an oil change

When fitting new clutch plates they should be soaked overnight in the same oil as is in your bike
In fact change the oil at the same time

I found that is was probably mostly down to the knackered front sprocket, almost round
have replaced it now, i know i'll need to replace the chain and rear sprocket at some point soon too, but i couln't afford it at the time.

If you were riding on a bike with a front sprocket so worn that it seem liked the clutch was slipping at 10K plus RPM then my friend you are lucky to be alive.

Chain off......... broken engine cases...........chain jammed in rear wheel............ wheel locked................big crash......................................

good stuff, i wanna compare it with the sprocket off of my XJR400, didnt think id ever see a sprocket so rounded off! Mine used to spin and judder like a cnut. Have you managed to test it yet and see if its cured it?

yeah, it seems to have cured it, tho i really do need to change chain and rear sprocket asap, you can see the chain doesnt sit snuggly in the rear sprocket. doubt i'll be riding it this month tho because it's at my parents, hopefully get it fully sorted by feb.
