'H' model Clutch rattles?

Post by Karenann »

Hi, could someone give me any direction to why some clutches on zxr4's are rattly / noisy? On my previous 'L' model with 15,000 miles you could just hear it and was really not noticable, on the other hand my current 'H' model with 17,000 miles is really noticable, would it help replacing the clutch to quiet the rattle? or am I looking further into the gearbox to solve the problem? Thanks, Karen-Ann x

Just live with it, they all have it. Something to do with some rattly plate that lives in there. Nothing to worry about :)

Thanks for the quick reply, but i'm after getting the bike kind of perfect & don't want to live with it. I'v just replaced the cylinder head gasket , also the cct last week & I feel that I owe it more seeing the work I'v done, was looking for more technical advice on the problem, but thanks anyway hunny. Ahh righto, well you can change the whole clutch assembly just for it to come back. Like i say its a plate that rattles, its part of the design so not alot of gonna make it go quiet.

We often say here if its a quiet engine theres something wrong!

actually, considering she's asking about an H, thats bollox, cos they dont have the kbatL slipper clutch.

so its the bearings,

strip, replace everything, refit.. quiet.

it won't however stay quiet for long .. maybe 5000 miles ?

our zx4 has been rattling for 40,000 miles .. it hasnt got any worse, and it doesnt bother me.

one tip though, get the carbs well balanced and the clutch noise isnt as noticeable.

I guess the H and L clutches are interchangeable just use the corresponding plates etc?

you need to swap the lot, but yeh..

FWIW i prefer the H clutches .. the KBATL is crude, and a bit unpredictable.
