Hey guys,


Just looking for some expert advice....(who better to ask that a gathering of dedicated riders riding the same bike!) on tyres for the zxr400. I've been using BT090s for years now and although a good tyre they're f*cking shagged after 2000 miles. Thinking of fitting the new Dunlop Sportmax Sportsmart tyres, anyone used them? any other suggestions???

That's about what you'll be getting from any sport tyre.

You could try switching to a Sport Touring tyre? You'll get twice the mileage and still more than enough grip for knee and pegs down on the roads - but they might get cooked if you do trackdays.

It's thought that todays ST tyres have the same grip levels of the sports tyres of 5 years ago. Most people are conned into super-sticky rubber that wears quickly and they really don't need for road use.

try dunlop alpha 10's ..i got a massive 800 miles out of a rear !

I think Pirelli do Angel ST's in a 160 now. If you ask me (go on!!! Ask me!!!) they're the best tyres out at the moment! They've got more grip wet and dry than any other ST tyres I've tried, plus they give over 6000 miles where the rest give me 3000 from a rear! (that's on my ZX9R though) They also didn't square off at all, and even once almost got me to the top of a hill in the snow.

Pirelli reckon their Hayabusa got 9000 from a rear, and you get the funky pic in the tread pattern, too!

They do, however i pretty sure they only do 120/70 fronts

i run a 120/70 on the road, nowt wrong with it... feels fine!

pirrelli diablo supercorsas all the way!

medium rear, hard front = 3500* miles to the wear markers (and with no rounding off) and more grip than you can shake a knee slider at! Oh, run 'em at 30/30 psi for best results.

*Riding conditions; riding like a bat out of hell who'd stolen a zxr400 off a big man with a bigger knife, who'd also discovered than the bike had 10lb of neat coke on board but had just passed a trio of police cars (just before spotting the police helicopter), has realised the pub is closing in 5 mins, and his wife has just rung him to say that she's wet and ready and tied to the bed, and then realising you've left the front door unlocked your mother is coming round to see you! Riding that fast.
