Speedo Drive Oil Seal Removal

Hi, does anyone know how to get the oil seal out of the speedo drive??? (ZXR400l3). I've got the rubber out, but there appears to be a steel ring that the seal is (was!) bonded to. Tried heating, but no joy and there isnt much room to get in with anything to prise it out. Anyone been able to do this and willing to share their secrets?
