Swap Out

Post by Striton87 »

I have a 1990 kawasaki zxr400 H1. im assuming the rear tires are default because the size is 150/50 17R. My question is can i fit a 170/60 R17 on my bike? and if so i should be able to keep the same rim right? :smt009

standard H2 and L model rear tyres are 160x60...so a 160x60 should go on fine, a 170x60 would add another ~1 - 1.5cm to the diameter of your rear, so check it will take it.

although why you would want it is another matter...

Do you mean diameter or width? I know the second number isn't height its a ratio but just to make sure for the OP

my L4 has a zxr750 rear rim fitted and runs a 190 x 55 just like any modern 600. gives more choice of tyres.

Zxr750 uses a 180 rear unless im mistaken? And what year/model zxr750, and what are the pro/cons on using 180 vs 160 rear?

hi, I am also running a zxr750 wheel with a 180 tyre in one of my race bikes.
The wheel is from a 1991 zxr 750 J model.
Hope this helps.

Does this slot straight in Stu? Wouldn't mind running a 180 rear wet.

unfortunately it requires new spacers to be made, i can send you details on the spacers if required.

I have over the last few weeks fitted a zx6r G/J model rear wheel, an easier conversion and still runs the 400 disc.

wheel bearings changed to 6304 and the spacer that would have been on the right in between the wheel and the brake hanger not used. ZXR400 brake hanger, cush drive, disc and caliper used.
