I have an AV36 rear which I'm trying out.
As I understand it, the later AV46 and 56 are good tyres dry and wet. I've heard such good thing that I will try them.
HOWEVER....
I don't know how old the AV36 is (anyone care to enlighten me?), but I suspect we're talking at least 15 years?
In the dry, grip is pretty good - not quite as good as the previous BT020's I had on, but easily good enough for confident knee-down on the roads.
In the wet, they are an absolute pile of toad.
From 50mph I can open the throttle from low revs and do a 100m rolling burnout. I am not exaggerating this at all. It's almost as bad as being on snow.
What I will say in their favour, is that they are VERY predictable. When they let go, they let go smoothly and progressively, and it's very easy to get them back without them snatching. That's in both the wet and the dry.
I would say that these tyres are either lethally bad in the wet, or for experts. The only, and I mean ONLY reason I haven't thrown them away, is because I am pervertedly enjoying the wheelspin and slides, and using it to improve my ability to control rear slides. (yes this is silly)
In all honesty, I can't believe that anyone with an AV35 front would survive a single corner in the wet at more than crawling speed. I luckily still have the BT020 front, otherwise I wouldn't have even considered keeping this Avon rear.
In short, if it's an AV36 rear and you don't want to slide everywhere in the wet, for your own safety get it changed now and never even think about buying another one.
I won't ever be buying one again once I change this one, and I very much doubt I will be wearing this tyre to anywhere near it's markers before I change it.
