092's or 021's?

Post by zxr_oli »

Well since my rear tyre is squared of and my front is running low on tread, i think it's time to buy new tyres :(.
Currently using BT092's, havn't got a complaint about them, apart from the fact that the rear's squared of pretty quick.
Have seen the 021's, similar price to the 092's, just wondering what you all think would be best?
Need somthing i can use everyday in all weathers, but i would still like to push it a little harder on those nice dry days (on the rare occation we actually get them).

090's are awsome but will squear off quickly and the rear be dead in 3,000 odd miles

yeah they are a veryy soft tyre, not suitable for anything over 400cc really. If your just scratching around then yeah they are probably ideal, but for every day use your probably much better off with something else.

the 090's are only rated 120mph i think? (cant rember the acutal rating) but yeah very nice to ride on!

If you try to keep away from main roads then the 090's will be good, other wise you need a far more hardwearing tyer to help top it looking like a box

Don't want to get the 090's, can't afford to be buying 2 new sets of tyre's before i sell later this year :smt009
My 092's, which are ment to be more sports touring have squared of pretty quick, which makes me think about the 021's.

92's should last quite well, get yourself on some back roads insted of taking main roads every were and the tyers will last much longer ;)

it really depends on what sort of riding you are doing, by the fact that you are squaring tyres off implies to me that you mainly riding on roads and not particularly twisty ones, therefore you can afford to go and fit something a bit harder.

You also dont say how quickly they have squared off

I dont fit bridgstones to my bike because
1) i hate the BT014 (loved the BT010)
2) I find that I dont get particularly good mileage out of them
3) theyre expensive.
So, Im not going to make a recommendation as to which one to fit

If you are after mileage, and still want a grippy tyre - I recommend the Metzeler sportec M3s. I have a set on my gixxer and Ive gotten 5,000 miles out of them so far and they are still no where near the wear bars and they are no where near square!
I've done IRO 200 laps round the nurburgring on them, gotten my knee down with them, and they have performed fantastically throughout.
Awesome tyre.

Performance bikes did an interesting test a few issues back showing that using the 002 over the 021 did not make that much of a difference

i've herd very good things about the M3's as well. I used to have M1's that performed very well ON TRACK but on the road they were to hard to keep the temp in and would slide all over the place in the wet.

Now got Corsa III's and are very nice indeed, not best suited to current conditions but come summer i'm sure they will perform very well in all conditions

I 2nd the BT010, i had them on my first ZXR, absolutely lovely tyres for the ZXR. Cant say they wore out quickly, in fact i recall getting roughly 5 or 6k out of a rear. Dont think you can get them anymore can you?

But as Caz says, if your squaring them off then you need to go harder.

nope, you cant get BT010s any more - theyve been replaced by the BT014. I dont think they wore out very quickly -just get better mileage out of other tyres :)

my other half had M1s on his KR when he got it, and didnt get on with them - i think mainly for the reasons you say rene. However, he absolutely loves the M3s. They are fantastic!

I don't do a great deal of straight road riding, however i do tend to stick to them in the winter.
I'll be honest, i'm to scared to lean that much in the wet/cold :smt005

Also, i'm right in thinking the front is 17 inch 120/60, and the rear is 17 inch 160/60?
