Front sprocket direction

Hello mates :)

For the front sprocket direction, for me the first picture below is the good direction (with shoulder outside) and the second is the bad direction (with shoulder intside), but thanks to confirm ;):

Yes the shoulder against the bearing.

If the other way round the retaining plate wont sit flat.

Be carefull, because the sprocket on my pictures above are 13 teeth, not 15teeth like original sprocket, see below my other front sprockets, you can see the 15teeth and 16teeth have shoulder to ensure sit flat for retaining plate (and not 14teeth and 13teeth on my first picture)

I found some example of pictures of zxr400 engines on google pictures and we can see that the shoulder is always external:

For me the rule is always to have the marking at the external, to show it when it's on the bike, that's why I think the shoulder and specially the marking should be external...

ZXRWorld people, how is mounted your front sprocket on your bike??
That is the question...

The microfiche does suggest some detail on the outward facing surface of the sprocket so maybe that is the shoulder? But for the reason Mad phil suggested, it doesnt make sense for the flange to be bent when the bolts are tightened.

Ill need to look at pics of my rebuild to see what ive done with mine, but im sure ive got the shoulder facing the engine.

Hmm.. Need to just measure the offset dimensions then,

but there must be a different locking plate though on the other sprockets

I'd say the flat side needs to be against the engine to line it up properly, maybe put some washers between the sproket and locking plate to stop it bending.

As far as i understand they arent suitable for anything over 250cc because the the chain can stretch under power and ping the clip off. If its ok, then its ok, not a chance id take tho.

Yea its a split link lol. I've always used em and never had any trouble, it's a heavy duty chain and doesn't seem to stretch much.

i think ive worked out why the shoulder does go as far on the 14th tooth sprocket. If it did wouldnt it catch the chain? And the flange plate is set off to allow room for the links?
