you dont need to grease the axle....................nothing turns on it................quick spray with WD40 or similair is fine IMHO

Chain and sprockets have arrived. X-Ring D.I.D., JT rear and something else for the front. Looks good. The chain has a rivet link and I saw on the web that I could rivet on the cheap with something like a pipe flaring tool on a g-cramp.

Have borrowed a large torque wrench for the rear bolts and have purchased a smaller one from Amazon for the others. I've got some Loctite 243 for the sprocket nuts so ready to go when the tool turns up! Of course then I'll then be troubling myself over wheel alignment

i have a chain breaker/riveter...makes the work so much easier...~£20 on ebay...

I use an old chisel to break the old chain on the rivet link.

I also have a chain breaker/riveter which is awesome.

i have an angle grinder....mwahahahaah!

I thought I could get away with a c clamp and various bodged up ideas...

It took a lot of effort to put the side plate only to find I put it on way too tight. Had to take a hammer and punch to open it back out again Then trying to rivet over the link - FFS. It has started to go over and is holding the chain together but needs doing further before I ride the bike properly. Sadly my c clamp end ball (I pulled the swivel flat head off) just isn't up to the job.

I've only been a quarter mile (testing my carb install) so I don't know if the new chain and sprockets have solved the problem but it felt OK.

if there is a specific tool for it, it's probably wise to invest in it...

Bike back together for a test ride and can confirm thankfully that the new chain & sprockets have transformed the ride!

No more chain slap or odd noises Should have replaced it ages ago of course!

Make sure you sort out the rivetting of that chain correctly. If it fails it will do one of several things -

1. Chain will fall on the floor and you will need recovery - annoying. If it flies up and hits another vehicle you will be looking at an insurance claim and possibly prosecution for riding an unfit vehicle.

2. Chain will whip round and smash the crankcases, so you need a new engine. If oil pisses out before you stop you will also be down the road on your butt.

3. Chain will come off and tangle itself up stopping everything dead and chucking you off the bike at high speed.

4. Chain will come off and slice into your leg

It's not a pushbike, it's a motorbike. When chains come off it gets very nasty. Do sort it for your own and other's safety. Like, today .

I swapped out a lump and swingarm for my mate when his snapped @ 120mph.
