Aluminium vs. steel sprockets

Post by Jack94x »

Hi
I'm looking at buying a chain and set of sprockets for my ZXR at the moment and I'm considering this Renthal kit (http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo.aspx ... rl=Renthal) which has an aluminium rear sprocket. From what I can tell aluminium is better because it's lighter but then it wears faster because steel is stronger. Does anyone have any thoughts of which brand chain/sprockets are best? And the best material for the rear sprocket? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Jack.
Cheers.

My aly renthal is looking fine and has done about 13,000 miles so far. Minimal wear and the teeth are not "bending". On my 1000cc yam ive got steel as it puts down a lot more power. Aly seems fine.for.smaller.bikes.

Thanks yeah I was thinking that aluminium is probably more suitable for smaller bikes because like you said, there's a lot less power being put down. Someone also recommended D.I.D. to me that they make really good sprockets and chains?
Cheers.

Ended up fitting a D.I.D. upgraded spec. sprocket kit with a gold chain, I think it looks pretty good :)
