Back end locking up

Hi Guys,

Just noticed that during hard riding, the rear locks up quiet violently on down changes (sometimes).

Could this be the cause for certain bald strips, around the center of the tyre?

Anyway to stop it?

Cheers

yes definatly the cause of the bald patches, dunno how to solve it, maybe dont ride so hard lol or get a slipper clutch, i know theyre expensive but im sure one will payfor itself in the long run by the amount of tyres it will save you lol

hmmm i wouldnt say it was just the bald patches. sounds it could be your riding style. maybe be a lil more soft ;)

sorry mis read the post. and yea it is more than likely the cause. gotta lay off the booze.

Blip the throttle? Let the clutch out smoother?

its your riding style........................leave the down changes a little later.

A CR gearbox from a SP will help too

Cant really leave the downchange any later.

Figured out when it happens now.

I ride a stretch of 1.5 mile road, over and over and over again (Its that good), and when entering a fastish, left banked left hander, I drop from 4th to 3rd, but could really do to be in 4th.
The reason I drop to 3rd is because if I stay in 4th, by the time I have gone through the bend, and start to pick the bike up, she is back below 12k, and no power :smt018

If I leave it any later, then I end up not being able to downshift, as the bank is rather far over, and I am a pussy. lol

I'll try going at the corner a little slower, see if that helps. Failing that I will grow some balls and try to carry it in 4th. lol

Cheers guys

P.S - I thought the L models had a slipper clutch fitted as standard?

That would work, but I have to upshift to 4th like 400 yards before the braking point, or it bounces of the limiter!

yes change up to 4th then brake later knock it back to 3rd again and keep it nailed

So when should I be downshifting?

As it stands, I am doing the following:

Roll of throttle, and squeeze brake, gradually getting tighter and tigher
Once enough speed is scrubbed of an I'm on line, downshift, get body into position, and drop the bike on its side (so to speak) - Constant throttle from start to mid corner - Rape its neck on the way out...

Whats wrong? lol

Yeah - Probably not hard enough though.

Will try it a little harder next time - Just dont wanna spend £150 on tyres for the rear to do what this rear has. lol

Maybe not brake so hard, keeping the rear tyre in better contact. Road isnt a race circuit you know :smt002

Yeah sounds like ure not blipping the throttle hard enough, blipping it is much cheaper than a slipper clutch!! lol....i.e. engine speed isn't matched to road speed and therefore the back wheel locks up. Practice blipping throttle in a straight line first - i.e. 9000rpm in 3rd, try switching to 2nd, the bike should not jolt in anyway, the only noticeable difference should be the engine noise...
