Front Sprocket Knock

Hi,

Now i know quite a few people on here have been mentioning about their front sprocket knocking when they're off the bike pushing it, but I haven't seen or heard a solution yet. I'm guessing it is something todo with the sprocket bearing yeah? If it is, is there anyway to change this bearing without completely dismantling the engine?

Regards

Rich

Hi,

I've changed my chain and sprockets a few times and still the same noise :( You can hear the knocking noise at slow speeds aswell. I've even tried slackening the chain, still no good.

I doubt if it's the output shaft bearing.....................it lives in a very happy oil filled enviormrnt.

And no if you feel the need to change it.................................you 'll need to split the crankcase

Is the sprocket loose on the shaft?

Hi,

Saying that I think it does. I remember now when I put the new sprocket on my new engine it did seem a bit wobberly. Is this something I can fix easy or is it something major? Could it be that sprocket plate that bolts onto the sprocket that's worn?

Rich

The flange you mean? Possibly, ive noticed it on both my ZXR's the front sprocket being a bit on the loose side. Id imagine its the flange tht worn since the shaft is alot less likely to wear.

Have you considered the idea of taking the cover off and actually having a look ?

It's 3 bolts on the cover and one to get the gear change off the shaft and you'll have a lovely view of the entire area in question

Hi,

I've only just managed to get enough time today to take the front sprocket cover off. Now.... the sprocket does seem to be on the wobbery side (like I said it was) so i decided to take that little lock flange off and had a looksey.

Here's what I found...

Doesn't look good if you ask me.

New 1 on order.

My wifes ZXR's front sprocket was loose like that as well.
I replaced the locking washer thing with a new one from K and it was exactly the same.

Maybe this is what the knocking noise on myn is also?

Would it sounds like its coming from the front end when riding slowly?

Hi,

It's def coming from the front sprocket, I can hear it when I wheel the bike in the garage. When riding it's like a really anoying grinding noise.
