Hi guys...

Ive took my rear break off today as it was seized up and not functioning at all...

The piston is nackered, and so are the seals. So, my question is, will this kit fit my rear break? - http://motorcycleproducts.co.uk/catalog ... 56407.html

My bike is a 1990 zxr 400 H1/H2 (not sure which!)

Just noticed the kit you've found includes a piston mine doesn't...................hence price difference

Does this kit inluce both pistons to rebuild the back break? i cant be sure

Looks to me like it only has one piston and one set of seals.............................you'll need two

Better to ring them and ask..................have a look on wemoto....................might be cheaper

Personally I wouldn't use pattern stuff for my race bikes especially for brakes............................

So i would need two sets of the piston kit then? I just need to make sure im buying the right stuff. As they are very expensive!!

Im worried that if i buy a second hand caliper off ebay, that the pistons will be the same, seized.

Before you buy anything I'd take the pistons out and clean them up then I'd take the seals out carefully and clean out the groove that it sits in. And rebuild

Every siezed caliper I've seen is caused by corosion in the seal groove which builds up and forces the seal against the piston thus causing it to stop moving. And every one I've fixed has been a case of cleaning out the seal groove...............................with NO need of a new seal or piston.
Dremel and a wire brush fitting works wonders some emery cloth and a bit of elbow grease will sort it too

yes ok i will give that a try... one only problem, i cannot get the piston to come out!! And tips on this? bearing in mind that i have the caliper off.

Managed to get the pistons out of my front break today guys..

Take alook at the gunk inside them!!! literally clogging everything up!



Ive also cleaned the pistons and seals up so wont be needing new ones.

Without wanting to sound cheeky but good god man how on earth did you allow your brake caliper to get into such a sate ? ? ?

and that brake fluid looks looks like HP sauce...............its been in there for years????????????? Why ?

Top tip................ good brakes save lives............... look after em properly

Frankly I think you should take it to someone who knows what they are doing..................

i bought this bike from a friend as a project.... Its been stood outside for along time!! hence the fluid looking like HP sauce, and which it did!

I would neva neglect my brakes, which is why im giving them a good clean! And yes, i did have problems with the rear brake, but that wasnt anywhere near as bad as the front ones.... Anyway, they are all in good working order now and feel really responsove, will take some pictures for you tomorrow.
