Bleed nipple surround broke off!!!!

Post by bonio456 » Sat Mar 01, 2014 3:05 pm

So long story short, removed rear caliper to change brake pads, after much cleaning and greasing got the old pads out and new ones in. Finally reattached to the bike today. During the system bleeding I tightened the front nipple and the surround snapped off leaving a hole straight into the caliper :smt011 pics attached

Any suggstions, before I buy a new caliper, help :smt009

Buy a new caliper, I assume you are very very strong :pmsl

No bodges, keep it safe, I have never used JB weld on anything brake related, honest.

I did this a few years back and my local mechanic hit me round the head with a rolled up copy of MCN, he told me I was an ape and never to work on my bike ever again, he welded it up somehow and used the rear bleed nipple, seemed fine.
He helped me to get a feel for bike work, much less ignorant now. :smt001

For the sake of £20 just get another caliper.

I for one am getting worried now, did you fork out for a new caliper??

Btw the JB Weld bodge to the brake line holder thingy that I defo did not do has been very successful, in theory, had I actually done it, which of course I didn't. I can prove that it was not bodged by photo's that frankly were not taken. :smt077

Your ape like skills (your words not mine :smt002 ) would have been hugely useful for removing my swingarm bolt, least finesse I've ever used on a bike.

Don't think of it as bottling it, more as being smart, back o' the net. :smt003

that happened to me, i didnt even tighten it that much as i was using a 1/4 drive ratchet, i may have used some chemical metal to fill the hole and then use the other bleed nipple confuddled

My mechanic at the time did exactly this and refused to replace the caliper, I suppose at 20 something years old with plenty of fresh fluid it gets worn out
