Brake Options

Post by WizzBang »

Hi all, Im a bit new to the zxr400, but having just bought an ex race L1 for track I need to get a few bits and pieces for it.

One thing that I really need to know is what caliper options do I have ??

The ones supplied look like they have lived in a bowl of brake fluid in the back of a shed for quite a while. I currently have a 19x20 Brembo M/C to go on and braided lines too.

Do any calipers from other manufacturers fit ??

What about 6 pots from a zx6r g/j/a ??

Any info you can give me would help lots

your best to options are eaither ZXR750 (not zx7r) calipers, there basicly the same as the 400 just larger!

then you've got the GSXR 1000 k1-2 6 pot calipers (i've got them on my 750) what would give you awsome brake power but you need to get spacer's made up for them. I can give you all the info you need to do this if you want it

Will the pads overlap the disc edge though...then when worn a bit the pads touch each other ??

the 750 ones fit the 400 disks fine, the 6pot ones might hang off a little (0.5-1cm on the 750 disks but there larger). I have seen the mod done to the 400 so i guess it must work!

you should also be able fit the ZX7R disks (larger disks made for 6pots) as there the same wheels as the 400. I've herd of this being done on the ZXR750 but im yet to get the money togeather to try it
