Squeeky Brakes.

Me again. My front brakes are squeeking, why I don't know, which is why I'm here.
They are working reasonably well. I think it's at lower speeds, although I can't be sure as I probably wouldn't hear them at higher speeds.

pads low? may have picked up a bit of grit? see how they go but check the pads.

God you're quick. The pads are fine, although they probably could do with a clean. I just give them a spray with brake cleaner and a wipe eh?

Can I do it without taking the wheel off? i.e. spray around disks/pads and use a really thin cloth between pads and disk?

Please say yes, riding them is so much more fun than fixing them.

might be worth check pushing the pads apart a touch to see if there is any grit stuck but watch the condition of the pistons cos if the exposed bits are corroded they will rip your seals as you push them back.

just undo the caliper mounting bolts and have a look.

I just realized I can just take the callipers off, but you'd replied before I could erase message. God I am so dumb sometimes.

Will give it a go when the weathers better.

Just out of interest, why would grit make it squeek? I would expect more of a scratch sound?

I always thought it was because of brake dust? Not sure why, but i know with a good clean and a thin layer or copper grease on the backs of the calipers usually sorts it.

Yep, all in order. Tbh I can't be arsed to do anything as they are working. If I leave it will it cause problems?

Also is lithium grease any good/same as copper grease. I have loads of that.

Your best bet is copper grease mate, its made for the job. Just apply some very sparingly on the back of the pad.

yeah, quite a cool trick.

cuz apparently the squeek starts its life as a vibration which is amplified thru the disks, thus becoming an annoying squeek!

thats my two pence worth :smt003
