Master Cylinders

Right so i have just bought and fitted some nissin 6 pot calipers which look amazing, but i thought it would be a shame to not upgrade the master cylinder at the same time.

so i bought one from a k3 gixxer 1000, and on arrival it looks EXACTLY the same as my current zxr 400 one other than the numbers on it.

do these numbers actualy mean anything? the numbers on the stock one are '7L' and '14' and the numbers on the gixxer one are '4D' and '14'.

i assume that 14 means the internal diameter, so does this mean that the one of a stock 400cc bike is equaly as good as that of the lairy, staggeringly quick one litre monster that is a gsxr 1000? or am i missing something?

pictures (although shocking) below:

I dont think thats a gsxr mastercylinder from a k series bike, shouldn't it be radial? It doesn't look like it is on the picture

early K gsxr's not radial, or we would'nt be able to fit the calipers to the zxr! k3 up i think are radial.
To be fair tho thermal, you might be best off with the matching mc for the calipers, like you have. I tried the gsxr radial mc from a later model with my 6 pots with not much success

edit, ahh, did'nt see you stated k3. well that should be a radial like will says. Id say yours is probs a k1 or k2 mc?

well the calipers are off a zx7-rr superbike, and i doubt i can get a m/c off one of those.

the 'stock' zx7-rr uses the same m/c as a k1/2/3 gsxr so i assumed this one would be ok.

do you think i should use this one, use the old one which as we now know is exactly the same, or just go out and buy a brembo?

I read something recently about those zx7rr brakes being a bit spesh, there is a chap on the pb forum that has a zx7rr that was doing something with his brakes, it was in the gallery bit i think.

Might be worth a look?
