05 636 front end swap on ZXR400L

Post by RSVR »

Evening Gents,

Been thinking of investing in 05 636 complete front end inclusive of wheel and brakes.

Now I had an 05 636 a few years back and I clearly remember the wheels being super light which surprised me!

Now the ZXR std front wheel all up is a ruddy old lump, and I cant stop day dreaming of the improvements this would bring to my ZVR400 race bike.

I appreciate you guys are board of this type of post, but I come cap in hand, as looking for the clear answers not the debates

1) Do you utilise the 636 triple clamps (Any modification necessary)
2) dose any know the total weight saving all up, inclusive of forks wheels disc etc.
3) Has any one raced this set up that can give feed back.

Many thanks
Mart

I've done the full swap, yolks and forks.
Bearings are the same but need to make a spacer as the stem is too long for the zxr frame.
Gives alot less offset too.
I'm just waiting on a zx6 front wheel then it will have brembos and ktech or ohlins cartridge kit fitted.

Keep me posted on the progression, but also your honest view on the improvements.

additionally I have some Marvic Mag wheels to fit to my race bike, early signs are promising with a 4.4kg weight saving before I even look at lightweight spacers etc.

I won't be getting it on track for a while yet unfortunately. Ideally I'd like a lightweight front wheel but I want to keep the spoke styles the same as the er6 rear. As I don't want to go bigger than the 4.5inch rear.
I'm hoping for a vast improvement in braking and Initial turn in due to the better calipers and less offset.
And with the cartridge kit a much broader and more refined adjustment range for the suspension
