Hi guys quick question looking at replacing my rear shock. Does a 1999 plate rear shock fit my 1995 L5? Cheers for the help!!

yes, exact same part.

remember though, even a 1999 shock is almost 20 years old...and was probably pretty shagged out after 5 years, given that they are non-rebuildable.

Is there a shock which you would suggest? I'm a student so really don't have the biggest budget but am dying to get back out on my bike. I've read all the posts on GSXR/ZX6 rear shocks but nothing that says an exact shock to fit my bike. Would there be no point in purchasing a 2nd hand rear shock then?

Cheers

aftermarket shocks start from ~£200 new

there is nothing wrong with fitting a replacement unit, but try and get something from a low mileage bike, ideally one thats not been on track...as its going to be an old unit and might not be any better than what you currently have fitted.

ask yourself the following question, has bike suspension moved on in the past 20 years?
