Post by rover220 »

have got myself an SP item to replace my current one.

how long/hard a job is it to swap them out and does one need any special tools for the job?

cheers

never been at the one on the ZXR, but have taken them out of other bikes. the shock itself is easy, just undoing two bolts. The potentially time consuming part is how much other crap you have to take off to get at it. Any or all of:

Fairings
Tank
seat
battery
undertray
rear wheel

etc, etc.

But as I said, I've not tried on the ZXR. It could be really easy.
In the garage:
Kawasaki ZXR400 L3 - shiny
Suzuki DR800 - bouncy
1978 Suzuki GS400 - PROJECT RETRO RACER!
Kawasaki GPz500S - for sale soon
Honda CG125 BR-J - in bits

pretty much as deviant said really.

defo the side panels and tank as the top of the shock sits underneath the tank. you will also need to hold the bike up by the subframe and not a padock stand, an abba stand would probably be perfect if you can borrow one.

Once you propped it all up, i think you just need to undoo the linkage bolts underneath the swingarm and then the nut at the top of the shock and it should all fall through.
