Advice on fork oil needed

Post by Cloud Wolf »

As said in the title i need someone to tell/advise me on which fork oil to buy and also quantities in each fork. just had new front oil seals replaced for £50 which i dont think is too bad. but would like to get the bike on the road for the weekend so need to buy oil tomorrow. All advice is welcome, if you need to know i wont be racing and just normal road riding which might/should affect how much oil/which oil to use.

Ahhh sorry mate, shouldve checked but didnt think the manuals had specs like that in, not sure why i thought that though .... Anyway thanks, will print the specs out and take em to the bike shop tomorrow. Oh an by the way, started sanding down all the paint yesterday, some numpty did a Jamz and painted over the original paint, which explains why its a really crap job and also the fact that theres a 2 sets of primer, 2 sets of paint and a laquer on top make sit extremely hard to sand down.

off the top of my head it's 7.5W oil as standard, but check that in the manual.
In the garage:

Suzuki DR800 - bouncy
1978 Suzuki GS400 - PROJECT RETRO RACER!

I've just put 10w oil in mine and it makes things so much more responsive. that's another option, but I'm not sure what the condition of your roads are like, so you may want to take a softer weight if they're rubbish over your way.

ive always been in the harder suspension is better camp. Untill i tried lighter oil. For me, far, far better.
Ive got morris 5w in mine, and tbh, feels soft when your pushing the bike around etc.. but so right when riding(track). im 11 stone and use the same airgap as standard( in the manual), and when using a ziptie around the fork legs, have around 25mm of space off the bottom of the legs, if ya get me.
