I have to replace the oil seals on my forks, and wondered if you guys have
any tips for supporting the bike. Someone said a wooden block under the
sump, and a trolley jack (with the back of the bike up on the paddock stand).
Is the sump strong enough to support the weight of the bike?

been done mate so no worries there (yet), sling under the yokes and hanging on a support above, under the yokes paddock stands which i believe Busters have for £60.

I don't have a set of front paddock stands, and have been meaning to invest in a
set. Maybe the under the yoke type would be an alternative to the other normal
type.
Anyway, good to know that the under the sump method might do me for now, so
I can get the bike through the mot and back on the road.

if you get the normal under the forks front stands you can't get the forks out

That's what I was thinking. Normal stands are ok, except for removing the forks
completely. If I already had a normal set, buying under the yoke types would
probably be a mistake, as they'd hardly get used. So buying one set, under the
yokes would cover all the bases.

Great thread for changing the seals. Was thinking about wimping out and getting
them done for me, given the list of special tools that are referred to in the manual.

when i have to remove forks i found a step ladder very useful, open it up and position over the handle bars, then use to ratchet type tie down straps and attach to bike and step ladder, use a jack or stand to lift front end and tighten straps as you lift. once all is tight and bike is at the right height it will be stable and you can remove forks. Like a A frame.

Different & creative

A very creative solution! It also means that bodywork does not have to be removed. It may be slightly inconvenient working round the step-ladder, but since the job is a one-off, it can be tolerated. I have a garage with steel cross-struts, so use a block and tackle to lift both front and rear ends for work like that.
