MOT fail. HELP

Post by Jonjo »

Just back from the MOT station with the following failure;
Offside front ( handlebar to tank clearance) steering lock stop maladjusted.

How do I sort this?!

I had this on my zxr but lucky for me my mot tester let it go, I had to by a new clip on handle bar.
Mainly because the bar was bent which causes it to hit the tank. I searched for ages for a used 1 and in the end bought a new set of renthals.

Pretty sure mine aren't bent though. Rides dead straight.

Go to a "friendly" MOT testing station.

I didn't think mine was bent visually looking at the bars they looked straight where the tube went in to the clipon it was bent where the big bolt goes in.

Only when I took it apart I could see the handlebar was bent on the last inch of tube.

Hey but then again you may have straight bars are the lock stops still visible on the frame ?

The Right hand side looks a little close. You could always undo the hex bolt under the clip on body and move it around a couple of degrees.
Then do it up back up again so it all tight, may of just shifted if the bike has fallen over.

Where is the bolt located?

Will give it a try tomorrow and see how it goes.

Where the clip-on is located at the top of the fork tube leg and where the top yoke plate is.
There is a small hex bolt/screw which locates the clip on to the top yoke plate, It will be on the under side of the top yoke clip-on arrangement on the inside of the fork leg.

Super thanks!

It does make sense now.

Currently soaking as I got caught out on the ride back in a downpour in jeans and jacket with a MOT fail in my pocket!

To be honest mate, there is nothing wrong with that lock > lock.
The bars dont touch the tank or the frame. The MOT guy is a tit.

Checked my bike. The left and right hand gaps look almost identical to yours and mine has passed all its mot's with no issues.

I did think it was being picky, there is a slight difference but it wouldn't crush my fingers.
He said it would/did so is an instant failure!

Interestingly no one has suggested that you look at the lock stops for wear or damage.
Or is that just too blindingly obvious ?

Interestingly I did mention the lock stops in my early post but it looks like nobody noticed that either :pmsl
