Front End Knock

Post by diesel »

Ok. ill cut to the chase. when i go over potholes/drain covers, speed ramps etc i get a knock from around the headstock area. just once when it hit the thing. Its done this for a cpl of yrs. ive changed yolks, forks, tyre , brakes etc. i did the bearings when i first got the bike a cpl yrs ago as a precaution but i didnt ride the bike to notice any knocking. Any ideas? Oh and i didnt buy a new front end cos of the knock. I wanted the right forks in. :smt002

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's not knackered/done wrong...

the engine mounts occured to me earlier as i have dropped the engine when i first bought the bike and not having had a chance to ride the bike to notice a knocking before dropping it thoughts turn to something like that. and jamz, the bearings have been done 3 times now and still the knock.

well, ive checked and re-checked engine mounts. had front end up off the grond and can find no play anywhere. replaced rubbers where i thought the noise was coming from and still it does it. starting to bug me. i wanna know what it is cos its screwing up my confidence in the bike.

mine used to do it, it's just like one little knock and it doesnt seem to repeat itself over the next couple of bumps either. i never did find out what it was.

The trouble with having an open mind, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

ok ive sorted it. i ripped the bike to bits and was looking at the airbox cos it was flapping aound worse than my wifes gash. renewed the rubbers that hold it and the tank down and put in a shorter bolt and hey presto. talk about feel a Camel lol. something so simple. bolt too long and rubbers knackered. but thats enough about my sex life :smt002
