Frame scratch :-(

Post by mxj560 »

Hi again!
I'm currently going through the process of giving my new L2 a thorough clean and going over and want to do it properly. Unfortunately the chap who owned the bike before me dropped it in its trailer taking it to MOT and scratched the frame on the left hand side (if you're sitting on it). The scratches have revealed a black under layer of the frame.

First question, is this normal, i thought the frame was aluminium, why is there any need for a silver metal to be painted black and then silver again??

Second question, does anyone know the silver paint colour of the frame so that i can buy some touch up paint to cover up the scratches.

Thanks again in advance for your help!

The frames are painted.. either silver or black!

Have a look in the model / paint codes section and see what you think.

The swining arm was also black on the black frame model.

Off the top of my head I'm fairly certain that there is a coat of black under the silver top coat on silver frames. I have a silver frame and there is black showing through where it is scratched.
Also some L ( certainly my L9) models came with a dark gray frame colour rather than the gloss black.

Aluminium does not stay shiny silver for very long without constant polishing the frames are painted because silver paint stays shiny for longer.

As Cargo says.
the silver painted frames and swingarms have black undercoat. I know as it took me a while to get the bugger off to polish the frame and swingarms
