Rev Counter Showing Wrong/Double
OK - I admit it! I've touched something and buggered it up!!
For some reason my rev counter is showing double!!
Does anybody know what circuit is faulty.
I had removed the wires from the left coil and plugged them back on with the green on top and red on the bottom, is this it??
Or have I touched something else?
HELP!!!!!!

Help
Sorry about the delayed response, but I've been away!
Tried the wires around the other way, makes no difference.
Who is "Guest" and when you say throw it away, do you mean the rev counter?
It works sometimes, but intermittently.
Any replys would be greatly appreciated.

Just to let people know (if they are interested) it wasn't the rev counter.
My battery had stopped holding it's charge, so everytime the battery had got low it caused the rev counter to show double.
Found out by charging overnight, first 2 or 3 starts were fine, but after that the revs started to show double.
Put a new battery in today and it's all fine.

aaargh help!!!
my bike started doing this today! revcounter shows i am at the redline when its actually doing about 6000 rpm
i don't understand how it could be the battery...
if the revcounter works by counting pulses produced by the coils, then it makes sense that there is a loose sumthing sumwhere thereabouts... anyone know how the revcounter works?
and, i don't know if i'm being paranoid, but its as if the bike is making even less power when this happened...
and the problem is intermittant!

Well you see what the man said it must be the battery. The rev counter may work by pulses from the coils but doesnt get its power from the coils themselves, it gets it from the battery. Some things work pretty weird when they dont have enough power.
Try what Solmansoft has said and charge the battery, if it starts doing it after a few starts then its gotta be the battery. Then go get a new one

mmmmm hear what ur saying, and will def check the batt, but am wondering if u hav a dodgy coil it might cause this kind of intermittant prob with varying voltage over the coil...
will charge batt and let u kno...

thanks! ... took teh bike for a looong ride and, bobs your uncle, revs back to normal...
this would also explain why my bike doesna want to start... battery simly doesna spool the motor fast enough...
getting a new one ASAP
thanks again...

mmmmm found a post by MveZ, "its not fair"
two cases with similar symptoms...
therfor: false rev reading= dodgy battery.
bought a battery but they gave me sumthing that looks like a ship battery or sumthing, didna fit...
the battery i have in sez YTX9-BS, is a sealed koyo one, will look for one of those tomorrow.
but am borrowzing a frends charger tonight, gonna try charging old one first.
