hey, im new to this forum as ive just bought a zxr for my first big bike, i had the tank and seat off as i needed to balance the carbs, ran absolutely fine so i placed the tank back on then turned it off and placed the seat on, i then sat on it and tried to start it and there was nothing. no lights, no ignition. checked all the fuses in fuse box, checked the 30 amp fuse on solenoid and they were all fine. i did cross the solenoid and the bike turned but did not fire up. i had a problem with the solenoid before so i replaced it but before the lights still came on just it would click when i pressed the ignition. iv checked all the basics i can think off so any help would be greatly appreciated. ross

Gremlins are buggars too sort :smt009

OK, bike ran fine before you touched it so we need to accept you have disturbed something when removing parts.

That suggests the loom has a break in it / chaffed so remove tank and seat again, see if it fires up - if not go along the exposed loom and move it about and see if idiot lights come on etc... obviuosly look for repairs on loom / damage. Especially look at places where the loom passes over edges or needs to be bent to feed through a passageway.

Next one to check is the loom coming from the ignition switch to the block connector.

Best of luck,

MM!

iv checked all the wiring and i cant find any splits, all the wires that were split i have cleaned and soldered, one thing i did notice is that it seems someone has rewired the reg/rec as it has no white permanent live? instead they seem to have wired the regulator straight up to the live terminal on the battery, i know this would have the same effect but im wondering if it could have burnt out the reg/rec? im unsure though as it worked before? is there anything else that is likely to have burnt out e.g fuse box? is there anything that would trip a whole circuit? light bulbs or anything? sorry for all the questions but it is driving me nuts

shocking

By the sound of it - BIN your LOOM & start again

Don't chase others f#ck ups! create your own :smt005

A constant live to anything is no good thing ! Except the memory on a GPS or clock.

L looms are readily available dont fart about or you'll be Grey by the end of it !

found the problem! someone had put a connector on the permanent live(white wire) which had corroded and the wire would just about touch. it was covered in the plastic shrouding and about 3 layers of tape just under the fuel pump and chassis. little bit of time with a test lamp and i found it. thanks for your help
