Coil firing order/wiring

Ok just wanted to check something as it sounded counter-intuitive at first.

Engine firing order is 1-2-4-3, coils are wired black and red = 1 and 4, green and red = 2 and 3.

Is it right that as long as the coils are wired up like above, it doesnt matter which wire goes to which bit of the coil, for example if the black wire was at the top of the coil and that HT lead went to cylinder #1, and the red lead went to #4, swapping them over (so now black goes to #4 and red goes to #1) will have NO effect.

So in other words the coil fires both HT leads, when cylinder #1 has compressed fuel spark plugs #1 and #4 fire, then when cylinder #4 has compressed fuel spark plugs #1 and #4 fire again...im pretty sure thats correct, just wanted to check.

There must be a reason why Mr Kawasaki had them coloured red and black. The last time I had the connection reversed, the bike just wouldn't start up right.

Then again, it could have been a dodgy connection.

thats what i thought, but im almost sure that both sparkplugs connected to each coil fire at the exact same time, i.e. twice as frequently as they need to...at least thats my understanding

Yes I've been told they do, it's called a 'wasted spark' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasted_spark

Isn't the bike already on a wasted spark system? One coil runs two plugs? One cylinder will be on compression and the other on exhaust stroke?

its just because the manual shows the wires going to the coils in two different ways, one has green lead to #2, the other has green lead to #3...so i just wanted to be sure
