Indicator Wiring L5 Model (Please, please help!)

Post by kawaiiko87 »

Hi,

I'm in the middle of replacing my indicators (not LEDs) but the new ones have only black and yellow leads, could anyone please advise me which leads on the bike are the pos and neg wires? I've been trawling the internet for about an hour. Can only find wiring diagrams which tell me that the wires are different colours, not telling me which colour wire is which!!

Please help, getting desperate!

Thanks!

It shouldnt really matter. Bulbs are not polarity sensitive, so plug em in and that should be it.

I've tried this approach already but it's not having any of it, either one side doesn't work at all, or one side is flashing faster than the other (bit unusual as not LED bulbs)... Guess it must be some other problem. The old indicators worked fine?!

well, the two halfs (i.e. left and right) are classed as seperate.

lets say that your NEW bulbs have BLACK and YELLOW wires, and the old ones have (for example) pink and white.

connect front and rear like this
BLACK to pink
YELLOW to white...and test. if they are not correct leave the front connected and change the rear only to:-

BLACK to white
YELLOW to pink...try again, if it still doesnt work, leave the rear connected and change the front to:-

BLACK to white
YELLOW to pink...try again, if it still doesnt work, leave the front connected and change the rear to :-

BLACK to pink
YELLOW to white...this will have tried the 4 possible combinations, one of these has to work, if not its crap lights/crap relay. then repeat for the other side.

it would help if you could post a link to the exact type of indicators you have bought, or make/model etc...

Thanks for getting back to me, I'm still struggling with this but have given up on the cheap and nasty ebay indicators.

Last year I bought front and rear sets for only £15 a pair from HG for my old bike and this year they've gone up to £15 each!! (Hence resorting to wonderful ebay models)

I'll see how I get on with some new ones... Thanks again though!

If you have a look at both the left and right side indicator wires one of each should be the same color on both sides.

Thats your negative.
