L3 rev counter not working after electrical failure

Hi guys and girls.
I'm new to zxrworld so please excuse me if I get any of the formalities wrong but i need some help and I'd appreciate any input.

Here's the situation: I was riding along on my L3 400 and everything died, I later found out that the inverter had blown, frying the battery and ECU with i!. So I replaced the fried parts (even getting the battery out was a nightmare because it ballooned out and filled the box that it sits in) but now the rev counter doesn't work, it only goes from 2000 to 2500 which must mean that there's something still going to it so hopefully all is not lost.

I have adequate knowledge of mechanics but not so much of electronics and because the bike is my only means of transportation I don't want it in bits for ages so I'd appreciate any help you can give me so I can fix it asap :)

It's not a major problem but I'm trying to ride economically at the moment and having a working rev counter would be useful :P

Thanks very much in advance people :)
