Rev counter - Lifeless :/

So yeah...

New battery 4 weeks ago, the old died beyond rescue.
Bike runs fine, no probs except the rev counter sits at 0 regardless of speed/gear.
Backlight still illuminates.

Things I've tried:-
Tapping the glass with my finger a couple of times.
Kicking the tyres
Cleaning the plug contacts from the loom in the nose.

Any other suggestions?

set a multimeter to measure low ohm resistance and check for connectivity between the black wire from the tacho to the black wire of one of the coil packs, and from the black wire of the tacho to the black wire of the fuel pump relay.

the tachometer senses the frequency of pulses being sent from the cdi to the coils and to the fuel pump relay and thats how it works out your rpm, if those wires are fine it could be that its not getting powered, i think there is something in the manual about testing your tacho, you might wanna check the electrical section, i think you put power directly to it and the needle flicks up...but you cant leave the power on for too long or else you can damage the tacho, check in the manual im sure its in there.

Have you tried tapping it with a different finger? That's all my electrical knowledge spent.
