Annual Service (plug & filter enquiry)

Post by rajrakhiria »

Hi Gentleman,

Just contemplating self annual service on my L9, never changed the plugs (it was done last time 3 years ago @ the garage), as my bike does not do over the miles (if you know what I mean). So anyone give a step-by-step guide on what I need to do? (Is it true I have to disconnect and take off the fuel tank)?

Aiming to use NGK Iridium (CR9EIX). Not cheap!

Additionally I have never changed the air filter, any know a reputable online website? (Kawasaki only sell the full air box with filter)! Megabucks!

Thanking you in advance. :smt014

To remove the plugs you need to remove the fuel tank and airbox.

Don't use the iridium ones, mo money for no benefit, use the cr9ek plugs instead.

As for the air filter, unless it's damaged or you want to use a K&N one simply wash the old filter in a bit of petrol to remove dirt then wash it in some engine oil, squeeze out all the excess and put it back in.

If the old plugs look ok you can just check the gaps and put the plugs back in, they pretty much either work or don't work.

Great advice! The number of times I've switched to new plugs only for:
A. Snapped one, grrrrrr .. Then damaged something else in temper ;(
B. Found the new ones are faulty ... Only when I've put it under load on the road :(
C. Wish I hadn't bothered ..lol
