Questions about my new bike
I've just bought a zxr '91 and have a few questions.
My oil light comes on whe I turn the ignition on, but turns off when I start the bike up, am I low on oil?
There is a dissconnected plug between my clocks (see pic) whats that all about?
As I am 18 I need the bike restricted, do I need to get it done by a dealer, or can I do it myself and get it dyno'd?
Thanks for any help, Rich.[/img]

first question - that's normal. every vehicle I've ever driven (car or bike) has done that.
second question - no idea!
[edit - looking again I notice your bike's an import. I'd guess not having anything plugged in here means that it is restricted for whichever country it came from (not the same as 33bhp). I think you can buy things to plug in and derestrict it off ebay. I'm sure someone with an import bike can confirm/correct this]
third question - I believe both would be acceptable, but you should probably ask your (prospective) insurance company. it's their opinion that counts in the end.

Thanks for that, the oil light threw me because it didn't do it on my last bike.
I take it the restriction in the clocks is a rev limiter? the bloke who sold it to me said he thought it had one but wasn't sure. Any idea on what power/speed it limits you to?
Good point about asking insurance company, will ring them tomorrow.
I got quoted £180 to get it restricted! so really hope I don't have to go to a dealer.

think you will need a certificate from the people who do the restriction to prove to your insurance company, if you need a plug in restrictor pm Gemini he has one spare for sale, the oil light comes on so you know the bulb is working, as for the restrictor in the clocks see here
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

I'm not on te road at the moment, need to get tax and restricted. Once I'm all legal I might test it for you.
Also I noticed the engine feels and sounds really rough if i run on the throttle below 2k rpm is this normal?
Do you know any good websites for second hand/new parts?
Sorry for all the questions!

to get a bike running smoothly through the whole rev range would be a dream, you wanna try mine below 50mph then complain about yours
ebay is always a good source of second hand parts, and you get a discount if you buy off AMS
