Why? H and L model Differences

Post by tomrowley20287 »

There are a lot of threads with people asking for information on fairings to fit H model bikes, with responses just saying it can't be anything other than H fairings fitted to an H model.

My question is why?

I've ordered some AMS new look fairings (before I read all these threads saying L fairings won't fit an H) and picture comparisons make me think the 2 bikes are pretty similar.

I understand that H and L fairings cannot be mixed and matched, but what about a complete set?

My H1 frame has an L subframe. So the rear should prove no problem, it's just the mounting points that may need moving around?

The bike has the same geometry and width of engine and frame?

Either way I'll update when I know through experience whether they fit or not, but if someone that has done this could at least tip their hat and say its fine I'd appreciate it.

Anything will fit, if you f*** about with it.
There is no definitive answer to your question.

When customising something you have to plan and engineer stuff.

There is a definitive answer to my question...

Here are the clear questions;

Are H and L engines the same width?
Are H and L rake and Trail the same?
Are H and L head stock pivot points the same distance from the front face of the yokes?
Are H and L frames the same in length, height and engine mounting points?

The biggest problem would be if the bikes are different widths on frame and engine. This would stop L race fairings fitting an H.

With the next problem being if the distance from head stock bearing centre to the forward face of the yoke are different. This would cause a possible restriction of steering movement with bars clashing with plastic.

If the rake and trail are different there may not be clearance under the nose fairing to get the forks rotating freely.

If the frames are different lengths, widths and have different mounting points then the fairing will either be too big, too small or will just need new holes drilling.

These are the questions I'm seeking answers to.

I spoke to Brian at AMS motorsport, he said the the front fairing is no problem, the fairing brackets for the side panels need a re-jig and an H model subframe needs completely changing.

Better to make an L subframe fit the a H frame.

But it is possible and won't require any crazy engineering.
