Quick question, as its been a while, does the rad need to be removed to get the downpipes off?

never tried it might be possible

but certainly access will be much easier with the rad off...............if it's a road bike then the nuts will be tight and maybe even rusted solid so good access will help.............................

i have done it with rad in place but as cargo said they can be tight and fiddley but it is possible if not just lower it down if you dont want to drain the coolant.

Just undo the mounts and use a 6mm ratchet with small extension - plenty room to dish your knuckles on the fins

BTW, have swapped the system on my bike about 10 times now and never removed rad just the above and all knuckles are still here I think

If the nuts are tight you might want to stop and apply some heat before continuing. A cheapo blowlamp will do. Cos if you snap them off a simple job becomes a whole load of hassle

When you put them back on do yourself (and any subsequent owner) a favour and put a smear of copper grease on the stud. Easy peasy next time then.
