exhaust fumes coming from 'engine'

Post by Blondie »

Hi,
I've just got a 1995 ZXR400L, it's been off the road for 18months and has just passed it's MOT.

I toured around london on Sunday watching my friend do the marathon (4 hours mostly 2nd gear) and noticed it got very hot under my legs and exhaust fumes were coming up through the front of the bike ... not from the engine itself, but from under that bit of the bike.

Don't think this is normal, can anyone help with any ideas of what it could be ...

thanks
Anna

mine always used to get very hot and burn my legs and butt, as for the fumes, maybe the exhaust is blowing a bit and the mot tester missed it.

id suggest gettin the belly pan off and check for leaks

4 hours slow riding will def make the bike very hot. as for the fumes it's probably like gem said the exhaust is blowing a bit somewhere or it's burning off a lil bit of spilt oil or something on the pipes

The trouble with having an open mind, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

When the bike is cold, start her up and stick your hand over the exhaust end, this should help you pinpoint any holes in the pipes :smt002

sometimes after putting teh bike back together i get that, when i've forgotten to put the breather pipe which goes between the airbox and the crankcase back on the airbox....
